Sketch for 'Hiltoniano' painting
Commission: "Hiltoniano" -Sketch and "What makes you Happy?" #1
Commissions are great because they allow me to have a specific, channeled aim for a painting; and that is producing what someone else is going to be satisfied with. It is not just the thing of making myself happy and hoping someone else likes it, but it is a collaboration of sorts, pushing me to create something from scratch to satisfy another's vision.
My latest commission is called Hiltoniano, a name posed by my client as a play on her neighborhood and her baby grand piano. With a few changes, this is the approved sketch. She was so happy with it, that she got me all excited to do the painting. I have about a month to create it and I’ll post the progress.
“What Makes you Happy?”
I’ve already gotten some good responses to the question, and as I said, I will post them here. My ultimate purpose is to use these comments as a launching pad for my creativity; that I may create something from them – a Happiness Journal perhaps?
Writing stories makes me happy. R.F
Working out and fishing makeshift happy. I love blow fish! K.R.W.
A good curry; Thai, or possibly Indian; Warm, coconutty and spicy.
My baby boy laughing or smiling. My daughter describing something she imagined. Sewing something that turns out a little better than expected. Feeling that I accomplished a few things during the day...T.E.
Life. Life makes me happy. With life, come God's gifts. Too many to list. The top of the list, has to be peace. I am now 65. I have 3 son (2 daughter in laws), a foster son, and a young lady who calls me mom (she has had a difficult life). Life Life has given me many challenges and God has been with me through them all. He has given me awesome friends (who are like sisters to me) and a church family I have known since age 10. Awesome. Life is awesom! M.F.
A brick of cannabis, a cup of coffee, and some kettlebells...all mixed. If I had all three and unlimited time, I would look like Atlas. M. L.
Doing for others makes me happy. Being my Grandmother's eyes, my partners rock, feeding the birds. K.W.
Seeing & being with you, Thom Reaves! P.B.D.
