Trentowrap Turbans: From the current series
My Nitty-Gritty Interview
I’ve been going over in my head about the reasons that I make art. The truth is, I feel compelled to make it. The series I’ve been working on for years, the Trento series, is something which I feel driven to continue, much to the disapproval of some gallery dealers who won’t carry them because they say/think it limits my reach. I don’t feel I have any choice in the matter though. I have so many ideas that keep coming. They are relentless – and they drive me to keep creating them. I estimate that I have painted about 32 paintings in the series thus far, and although I’ve been painting for years now, I sometimes still question or doubt myself, especially in continuing this series. I think, however, about the encouragement my family gives me. They said, “If you have it in your heart to do, then you must do it”, and “You’re building a brand. Trento is a brand. It doesn’t matter if people ‘get it’ now; just keep going”. My thoughts exactly, so that’s what I’m doing. I want this series to be a major thread of my life as a professional artist; a series larger than where it comes from; a series that just is what it is – a series made to be fun.
And with that, I want to post an interview of me by the art book guy www.artbookguy.com. I speak about my life as an artist, about my personal philosophy of my art and where I'm coming from as an artist. Please give it a read, and let me know your thoughts about art too. http://artbookguy.com/thom-reaves-lightening-is-meaningful-_759.html
