How Can You Miss Something You Never Had?
I saw a comic once (or maybe it was a painting) showing a woman with an aghast look on her face. The speech balloon said “OH MY GOD, I FORGOT TO HAVE CHILDREN!!” I thought that was really funny then, but recently, I’ve been missing, or rather, thinking about the children I never had. I know that sounds kind of a downer, but it makes me think of how much children add to one’s life. I get so happy when I see young babies and little ones running around. I have a young niece whom I’ve watched grow up right before my eyes, and she’s at that independence stage. She’s now 15 and loves horses (and she just won in 3 riding shows! So proud!) The time goes by so fast. ‘Sigh’. Anyway, I decided to do a series of children and young people. I've shown a few of them in past posts. They are available, small works, acrylic on canvas, unframed and 6” square. It’s great coming up with names for them. There are six in the collection so far and more on the easel. If you would like to see the whole collection or purchase one, you can do so here. A portion of the proceeds of each one will be donated to a children's charity.
I would love for you to comment about your children. What have you gained by having them in your life?
In other news, I’m also reentering my licensing deal by doing a new series of travel posters. The ones planned are to depict the towers in Paris, London, and 2 for New York (Can’t decide whether to use the Empire State Building or The Freedom Tower). I’m also thinking of doing Pisa. Licensing gives me the opportunity to create works of art that will be reproduced to sell in stores and other locations. The works I create are ones where I must pay attention to the color palettes and trends of current fashion and home furnishings. It’s sometimes difficult for me to do this because I usually work in very bright colors, so this kind of reigns me in. I’m excited though. I’ll post as I do them.
