Happy May!
Recently, I created two paintings for a client and he relayed to me how he felt when he first saw my art in my studio. He said; “I can't feel sad in this room. Your art is so happy”. That made me feel good to know it has a good effect on people. It brought me back to the heart of why I started to paint the things I paint – to make people happy. So, I decided to go back to that base with a new series of paintings; a continuation of a series of paintings I created a few years ago. The series is called Joie. Joie is the French translation of the word Joy.
I paint poster-style art, so most all of my works have words or typography as part of the overall design. Joie- pronounced “zhwah,” is the word I will use in each painting of the series; paintings depicting simply painted people with happy faces in different situations enjoying their joy.
Shown are some examples of the first series. These were small 5” X 7” paintings. The new works will be 11” X 14”.
Here is the doodle of the first painting and my progress on the actual painting so far. It will look much different when it is finished, but here are the bones of it. It shows a joyful woman scrubbing the floor. Could you be joyful scrubbing a floor?

Here is the doodle for the second in the series.

Lots of ideas flowing with this series.
